Mosley picks Mayweather to beat Pacquiao

mosleyBy Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Shane Mosley is picking Floyd Mayweather Jr to beat Manny Pacquiao in their mega-fight on May 2nd if the fight comes off. Mosley isn’t sure that the fight will be able to get successfully negotiated but if it does, he thinks Mayweather is the guy that he’s backing.

Mosley has fought both guys in the past and lost to them. Mosley was able to briefly hurt Mayweather in their fight after nailing him with a big right hand. However, Mayweather survived the round and came back to easily out-box Mosley for the remainder of the fight in a one-sided affair. Mosley’s loss to Pacquiao was more like a glorified sparring match with both fighters touching gloves at the end of rounds.

“Both guys are tremendous fighters, but I do lean a little bit more towards Floyd Mayweather,” Mosley said to ESPN.com. “But Manny Pacquiao has great power and he’s also a southpaw that can give him a lot of trouble. This is a fight that can be very interesting. I haven’t heard anything but maybe it’s coming close.”

Pacquiao would have to change his fighting style for him to have a chance at beating Mayweather. Pacquiao leaves himself open by fighting so aggressively in his fights, and he’d have to change all that if he wants to have a chance of beating Mayweather.

Pacquiao will walk into too many shots if he rushes forward like he normally does in his fights, because Mayweather is a natural counter puncher and he’ll pick Pacquiao off with his shots.

Mosley hasn’t fought since losing to Anthony Mundine in 2013. It’s unknown whether Mosley will ever fight again, but if he doesn’t he’s going to have to need to be careful in the type of guys he faces. Mosley is too up there in age to be looking to compete against the top guys.
