floyd1By Yannis Mihanos: As the negotiations for the Floyd Mayweather Jr – Manny Pacquiao fight have reached critical point, we all now expect the good news that the fight negotiations are nearing the end for their May 2nd mega-bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It will be great for the world of boxing. At the moment the fight still isn’t made yet, but that isn’t stopping people from expressing their opinions.

The only solid evidence is that Pacquiao’s camp has started training and began preparation for the fight on May 2nd.

Number 1 in all boxing rankings is undefeated Mayweather Jr, and he knows that this fight will define his legacy as a fighter and as a person.

When you are at the top like he’s been for so long time it is difficult to let go. Being at the top is sweet. It is also very profitable; no other in the boxing business has earned near as much as Mayweather has in the ring.

So it is understandable that there is a lot at stake for Mayweather. This is a totally new situation. Yes, Mayweather has fought some dangerous opponents through the years such as Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Marcos Maidana, but none of these guys contained a total threat. One way or another, Mayweather managed to win, sometimes easy and sometimes more difficult.

Number 2 in the rankings, Pacquiao, appears hungry and thirsty to give Mayweather the fight of his life. Pacquiao has been waiting for this moment for many years and feels confident enough to give his very best.

Through the years Pacquiao has fought at least one formidable opponent who matched his strength in the face of Juan Manuel Marquez. His four thrilling encounters, especially the first three, will remain in boxing history forever.

Of course not all opponents were at Pacquiao’s level. I just recall the last three who weren’t even close: Tim Bradley, Brandon Rios and Chris Algieri.

Because Pacquiao has tasted defeat 5 times in his career, he appears to have the upper hand in terms of psychology. He knows what happens and how to bounce back.

Of course no one will like to be remembered as the second. All in all, this is the battle of the first, I could say it’s a final like in any other sports. But because this is not like any other sport the expectation is huge.

The official announcement for the fight to happen is now possibly only a handful of days away. Let’s get ready for a great fight!
