floyd7By Chris Williams: For boxing fans interested in purchasing the May 2nd mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao on HBO or Showtime pay-per-view, they’ll be seeing three fights for their money, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

The exact price of the fight isn’t yet known at this time, but there have been rumors that it will be going from base price of $100 to as much as $110 for high definition.

Three fights for $100-110 are well worth the money. One of the fights will be a Top Rank fight, the other from Mayweather Promotions, and the other the main event between Mayweather and Pacquiao. It sounds like the perfect setup. The Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight is so good that it really doesn’t matter what fight is placed as the co-main event because it’s all gravy after the main event.

It would be nice to see some talent on the undercard. I hope that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum doesn’t insert Jessie Vargas on the card, because I think it would be a lot better if Arum used his option to place someone with an exciting fighting style like Brandon Rios. Vargas is too much of a mover to make it interesting.

“A busy morning has caused me to hereby raise the #MayweatherPacquiao threat level to red. There is severe risk this fight will be finalized,” Rafael said on his twitter. ”If Mayweather-Pacquiao is gets done PPV will be 3 bouts. Main event & Top Rank & Mayweather Promotions each make 1 fight of their choice. Also if Mayweather-Pacquiao gets done price of PPV will be greater than usual but I am told the exact price has not been set yet.”

I’d like to see J’Leon Love as part of the Mayweather Promotions undercard fight. I think he would be a great addition to the card. If they could match him against Top Rank super middleweight Gilberto Ramirez, it would be a great fight.

I think $100-$110 isn’t too much to ask boxing fans to pay for this fight. It’s such a big fight that that I can see it going for even a little more than that, and still bringing in over 3 million PPV buys.

Many boxing fans and writers were assuming that Mayweather would choose today to announce his big fight with Pacquiao, but thus far he’s not done so. My guess is that Mayweather is going to wait until next Tuesday on February 24th to announce the fight.

This is Mayweather’s birthday, and I think it’s the perfect time for him to make the announcement. As soon as I heard people talking about today being the announcement, I knew it wasn’t going to happen. I don’t see it happening until next Tuesday.

There’s no reason for Mayweather to rush things now because there’s no reason to. Mayweather is already training, as is Pacquiao. The fight doesn’t need any real marketing, as many boxing fans think.

Mayweather can wait until the end of February easy and still announce the fight in time to make it a huge success. Having a small press tour would be nice, and it would also be a good idea for Showtime and HBO to have their usual 24/7 and All Access episodes in order to alert the casual boxing fans about the fight.
