Mayweather-Pacquiao negotiations looking good

floyd63By Dan Ambrose: The Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao negotiations are going well at this moment, according to Steve Kim. He’s saying that he’s hearing good thing.

This is great news that the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao negotiations are going well right now, because there was less than positive news coming from the boxing world lately. Having something good to say is step in the right direction.

The negotiations have been at a standstill lately over a number of small issues that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum said that were holding up the negotiations. Showtime and HBO are also still in negotiations.

“[I’m] Hearing that things are looking very good for Mayweather-Pacquiao, as of this moment. Those involved are optimistic #boxing,” Steve Kim said on his twitter.

There’s no official drop dead date for the Mayweather-Pacquiao negotiations, but the longer it takes for the fight to be ironed out the less time the fighters will have to promote the fight.

If the fight doesn’t need any promotion in order to make it a huge fight then it won’t matter if the negotiations drag out for another month or two. But it’s not likely that Arum is willing to let the negotiations drag out that much longer without him pulling Pacquiao out so that he can put him in with one of his Top Rank fighters like Jessie Vargas.

The Pacquiao-Vargas fight isn’t one that will make the huge money that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will bring, but it’ll still bring in good cash for Arum, Top Rank, Pacquiao and trainer Freddie Roach.

Arum wants to make sure that Pacquiao fights twice a year with a decent amount of time in between his two fights in order for him to recover. If Pacquiao doesn’t fight by late May, he’s going to find it difficult to slip in two fights in 2015 unless his next fight is an easy one in which he destroys some over-matched sap.

Vargas has little in the way of power, so he could be an easy mark for Pacquiao to score a quick knockout win without him suffering any injuries that keeps him out of the ring for an extensive amount of time.

Mayweather and Pacquiao will make a huge amount of money for their fight on May 2nd. Pacquiao could get $80 million to Mayweather’s $120 million. With a payday like that, Pacquiao would be getting roughly four fights’ worth of money in one fight. Mayweather will be getting 3-4 fights worth of cash depending on whether his money goes up to $150 million or not.

Mayweather says he wants the fight with Pacquiao, and you have to believe he’s serious. Why would Mayweather go through the trouble to create his Instagram videos where he expresses his interest in the Pacquiao fight if he wasn’t interested in the fight?

The options for Mayweather aren’t good if he doesn’t get the Pacquiao fight. Showtime vice president of Sports Stephen Espinoza is saying that Mayweather will fight Miguel Cotto o Amir Khan.

The boxing public aren’t calling for these fights, and it’s likely that Mayweather will find himself getting lower pay-per-view numbers due to Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez competing with him on the same night in his fight against James Kirkland.
