Floyd Jr is going to get rid of Pacquiao, says Roger Mayweather

roger556By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr’s uncle Roger Mayweather expects him to do away with Manny Pacquiao in their fight on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao has been sharing the spotlight with Mayweather more or less for the past six to seven years with his wins over guys like Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto.

Pacquiao hasn’t fought Mayweather Jr, and on May 2nd we’re going to see one of two fighters officially crowned as the number one fighter in the sport. Mayweather has kind of been given the crown unofficially by many boxing fans due to his unbeaten record, his superior opposition he’s faced, his undefeated record and his bigger pay-per-view numbers.

Now it’s Pacquiao’s chance to prove whether he’s in Mayweather’s league or not by trying to beat him in their fight on 5/2.

“My nephew, he’s going to get rid of Pacquiao. Pacquiao can’t do [expletive] with my nephew,” Roger Mayweather said via esnewsreporting.com.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Mayweather defeats Pacquiao on May 2nd, because he certainly is the more disciplined fighter of the two with the better boxing skills. Pacquiao will need to be a completely different fighter than he’s been in the past for him to win the fight.

That means his trainer Freddie Roach is really going to have to come up with a specific game plan rather than him just talking about it like he always does. Roach always says he’s coming up with different game plans for Pacquiao against different opposition, but when you see Pacquiao fight, he’s always pretty much the same fighter every time out.

The only opponent that Pacquiao faced where he fought with a different style was in his fight against Antonio Margarito five years ago. Pacquiao played it safe in that fight after getting hit with a hard body shot. However, it’s up in the air whether that was Roach’s doing or Pacquiao simply going into the self-preservation mode after he was hurt by Margarito.

If Pacquiao loses badly to Mayweather in this fight, I don’t see Pacquiao going anywhere. His promoter Bob Arum will likely look to rebuild him back up by putting him in with a bunch of his Top Rank stable fighters. Arum has a lot of mediocre fighters in his stable that Pacquiao can beat and get back to where he was before.

Mayweather can get rid of Pacquiao in the sense of him scoring a knockout against him if Pacquiao fights recklessly like he always does. That’s one way where Mayweather will be able to get rid of Pacquiao. But as far as Pacquiao going somewhere after he loses, I don’t think that’s going to happen. Pacquiao will be able to come back from the loss and continue to beat guys like Brandon Rios, Chris Algieri and Tim Bradley over and over again.

The best thing that Pacquiao and Arum can hope for is that winner of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight doesn’t win a conclusive, one-sided decision. If that happens then there won’t be much demand for a rematch. But if the fight is a close one, then boxing fans will likely purchase the fight on PPV in huge numbers for the rematch.
