David Lemieux in play for Canelo-Kirkland undercard on May 9th

lemieux4554By DA: #13 WBA,#2 WBC, and #5 IBF Middleweight contender David Lemieux is reportedly in talks to be apart of the upcoming Saul “Canelo” Alvarez – James Kirkland undercard on May 9th at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. This report came from LA times reporter Lance Pugmire in an interview with Oscar De la Hoya about 2015 being Boxing’s biggest year and Canelo Alvarez.

If Lemieux does get put as the co-main event that makes the card a lot better especially since it’ll be a championship bout given that Lemieux recently accepted the IBF’s offer in facing Hassan N’Dam for the vacant belt. The belt was held briefly by former undisputed middleweight champion Jermain Taylor but due to legal issues Taylor was stripped of his title assuming he won’t be able to make defenses of the belt. Taylor won the belt by defeating Sam Soliman in which he dropped Soliman several times.

The N’Dam-Lemieux fight should be a good one if Lemieux can cut the ring off and force N’Dam to fight rather than use his lateral movement. N’Dam is a boxer and if Lemieux can’t figure his rhythm out it could be a long night for him. This will be Lemieux’s first shot at a world title and he can’t afford to screw it up if he wants big fights against the likes of Gennady Golovkin or Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

As for N’Dam he held the WBO Middleweight title before losing to Peter Quillin in 2012 in which he was dropped several times due to his shaky chin. Lemieux was last seen in action against Gabriel Rosado whom he stopped in a brutal beat down. Hassan N’Dam was last seen against Curtis Stevens in an IBF eliminator bout in which N’Dam dropped Stevens and out-boxed him to a shutout decision. Other rumors for the Canelo-Kirkland card are Mauricio Herrera being put on the card as well.
