Top Rank’s “contract” exposed

pac87By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: Top Rank CEO Bob Arum invited whoever would listen, Pacquiao fans, Floyd Mayweather Jr haters and any member of the press who would not question him on the fact that “Manny has agreed to everything, signed off on a contract and all that we’re waiting on is a signature from Floyd” upon his boat; The USS Signed Contract. The boat sailed along for weeks picking up people whenever it docked and sometimes people would abandon their own boats (opinions) mid water to climb aboard the prestigious luxurious boat.

All parties agreed to keep as much info out the media as possible, yet Arum chose to do otherwise. Mayweather and Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza maintained their stance that no contract had existed and that Showtime and HBO had not yet come an agreement on how the fight would be distributed. But by this time, it didn’t matter. The public had already made up its mind that it was Floyd holding things up because of his silence.

Even Pacquiao and his adviser, Michael Koncz were assisting Arum in filling the big boat telling people that Manny had signed a contract. They even went as far as to issue a deadline to Floyd to sign by the end of this month or they would move on to plan B. This was until the USS Signed Contract docked in Miami.

Pacquiao, some of his people and Koncz got off the boat to attend the Miami Heat Milwaukee Bucks game. What happened next, I don’t think anybody could have foreseen. Members upon the USS signed Contract were watching the game on TV when Floyd decided once and for all to end all the propaganda that Arum Pacquiao, and Koncz had been feeding the people. Floyd asked them to stop lying about a contract that didn’t exist. Soon after, the internet was filled stories about the two fighters meeting at halftime and exchanging numbers. At the same time, a piece of plaster came off the side of USS Signed Contract exposing the words Top Rank. No one noticed and Arum continued preaching that it was only Mayweather’s signature that was holding up the fight. Soon the internet was a buzz with many stories about the two combatants meeting at halftime and for an additional four hours Manny’s hotel room AFTER the game was over. In an interview with Ben Thompson’s FightHype, Koncz did not refute that FMayweather asked them to stop lying about the contract that never existed. For the second time, Floyd went around Arum to talk directly to Pacquiao so they can iron out whatever needs to be ironed out to make the fight happen.

Mayweather’s boat; The Best Ever had pulled alongside the USS Signed Contract, fired cannonballs of truth, exposing the real the name of the boat; The Top Rank PR Machine. People began to abandon the boat while some have still chosen to believe that Floyd is holding up the fight even though Koncz has said there in no contracts. Now whether the fight happens or not (I believe it will) remains to be seen, but at least the truth has been told.
