Mayweather, the fans made you rich now repay us

mayweather22By Victor Candelario: Throughout Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr’s (47-0-0 26 KO’s) career, Floyd fans, Boxing fans, and even casual boxing fans (who don’t follow the sport as religiously as so many of us do) have paid Mayweather large sums of money to watch him fight. Some of us paid to watch him win, some of us paid to watch him lose, and some of us paid because what we were witnessing was one of the best fighters of this generation neutralize even some of the better offensive fighters in the sport, and realistically making it look pretty easy.

Fast forward to today, Mayweather regularly topping various lists as the highest paid athlete. Flaunting his vast amounts of wealth on social media sites, his cars, his mansions, his gambling endeavors, his watches, and his designer shades. While continuing to dominate the sport, at the highest level, remaining #1 on pretty much all pound for pound lists, and still raking in the big bucks from people who pay his $70 pay-per-view fee to watch him fight.

But something has crossed my mind as of late and it should be in the mind of all boxing fans, be it a Floyd Fan, a Manny Fan, a casual boxing fan, or a diehard boxing fan. Floyd didn’t make Floyd rich, The FANS made Floyd rich. All those fan boys who support Floyd no matter what, and all the people that want to see him lose, all the casual boxing fans, and all the diehard boxing fans made Floyd rich. We paid for every fight, and after every fight he says he is not only the best ever (TBE) but that he gives us (The FANS) the fights we want to see.

The reality is he does not in any way shape or form give us fights we want to see. Nobody wanted to see him fight Marcos Maidana (35-5 31 KOs) the first time, let alone a second time. Nobody wanted to see him fight an outmatched Robert Guerrero (32-2 18 KOs) in that god awful fight. And I personally never thought Saul Canelo Alvarez (46-1 36 KOs) would be a match for Floyd at this particular juncture in his career (He even struggled against another technically skilled boxer in Erislandy Lara). We want to see him in there with the other best fighter of our generation Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (57-5 38 KOs).

The fans, both Floyd fans, and Manny fans, casual fans, and diehard fans have been begging for this fight since 2009 and still are 6 years later. It’s got to the point where even the Floyd fans I know have no response to why he refuses to fight Manny. Manny admitted early on in negotiations that he was at fault one time for the fight not happening (random drug test and purse split). But this time nobody is at fault here EXCEPT Floyd Mayweather. Manny accepted less money, he gave Floyd control over the ring size, the glove size, who walks in first, where the fight will be and even agreed to ANY drug testing.

Floyd’s excuse is Manny’s PPV numbers taking a dip and money. Let me emphasis one point right now before I continue, Floyd VS Manny will shatter pretty much EVERY and ANY sales figures records ever posted in boxing. Floyd will easily make the most money he’s ever made in his career, even more then the fight with De La Hoya and the fight with Canelo Alvarez. So I’m debunking that excuse right now as should all of you, cause I firmly believe if he is truly about his money, as his ring nickname, shall have us believe, then why wouldn’t he take a fight with Manny (arguably a record breaking sporting event) ?g

Both Manny’s and Floyd’s numbers have took a significant dive because they haven’t fought each other (More Manny’s than Floyds). Now there are rumors of a second showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto (39-4 32 KOs) looming. Let me establish as big a fan of Cotto as I am I have zero interest in this fight. I do not want to see it. I surely will not pay for it.

Floyd gets us hyped about a possible fight with Manny again, to avoid (Yes, AVOID, it has become ducking at this point in his career) Manny again, and face Cotto again. So I won’t be paying to see him face anybody else nor should fans that funded his Mansions, and his cars, his gambling, and his designer shades should either, unless that somebody is Manny. We (The Fans) have made this man richer than he’s ever been. Mayweather didn’t make himself rich, the fans of the sweet science made him rich. The least he can do is give us what every fan (that made him the highest paid athlete) wants to see by fighting Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, while we make him that much more richer.

We’re tired of excuses, Mayweather. Even your own fans are asking you to stop ducking Manny. Before there may have been valid excuses, but today, there is no longer any excuse or reason for you to avoid Manny, other then you’re scared. So either come out and say it, or stop wasting our time being hopeful of a fight you might never make happen. Sincerely, a diehard fan of boxing who doesn’t hate Floyd (for all those Floyd fans who are going to freak out in these comment sections) and doesn’t favor Manny (again for all those die hard Floyd fans). I just want to see this centuries, fight of the century. I don’t care who wins, and I don’t care who loses. I simply want to see this fight be made, as should Floyd and Manny fans.
