Mayweather-Pacquiao Speculation

mayweather555By Jermill Pennington: While rumors seem to spiral out of control I try to focus on the words that come from the mouth of those involved that don’t have an agenda. A parable in the Bible (Matt. 13:24–30). talks about separating the wheat from the tare. A tare is a type of weed that grows along-side of wheat and is identical. What’s implied in that passage is that man is unable to tell the difference and can be tricked, so leave that judgment to god. That said we as fans in the case of Pacquiao Mayweather have a hard time combing through reports to find the truth.

What usually happens since the truth to us can be hidden behind manipulated and premeditated agendas, we as fans tend to select what information we consider to be truth depending on what side of the fence we’re standing on. This to me is no indictment on a person, more so a natural human characteristic. However there are those of us who rather seek the truth then to point a finger.

I for one am left scratching my head daily at the conflicting reports. With so many hands in the pot it’s hard to know who to believe and what source is credible. Just today we have two reports that completely undermine the other.

Yesterday Bob Arum made a statement that Manny Pacquiao has agreed to all terms of the contract and has signed off. I immediately thought this is a very strange thing to do on Arums behalf being that negotiations have been so sensitive. You don’t see companies who are planning to merge or make a deal outing the other to the public unless everything has already fallen through. I can’t see how making Pac signing the contract known to the public helps progress the fight. If anything I see it adding more water under a bridge that has given way in the past for similar reasons.

Now today we have Oscar Dela Hoya making a statement were he says he wouldn’t be surprised if Mayweather fights Cotto. Now these two reports are obviously conflicting and there is a large grey area that fans are being left out of. For Oscar to say it wouldn’t surprise him if Mayweather and Cotto were to fight again is a clear indication that he knows they have been working on something.

Meanwhile Arum would have one to believe that negotiations with Pac and Mayweather are close to an end. If Pacquiao has signed I believe things like a fighting location would have been agreed upon however a MGM spokesman told Yahoo Sports that there was no deal for the fight to be held at the Grand Garden as far as he is aware. The disdain that Dela Hoya expressed was clearly a result of the possibility that Mayweather could indeed steal Cotto from Canelo as an opponent.

That for Canelo would leave him without a marquee name for his upcoming bout that he hopes to be ppv. With Oscar’s assertions added to the mix I’m left wondering what’s really going on. Arum jumping out there so aggressively leads me to think he also knows Mayweather is working with Cotto and wants to take the lead in the finger pointing that will follow the announcement that the fight has indeed fell through once again.

For the sake of fans I hope the sought after “mega fight “does come to fruition. As of now I have to say I am doubtful, too many cooks in the kitchen and too many palms that are looking to be greased.
