Marquez, Maidana and Bradley possibilities for Kell Brook, says Hearn

maidana6By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn has doubts that Amir Khan will take a risky fight against his fighter IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook in the summer due to Khan having Ramadan. That will erase the chance of Brook facing Khan in a pay-per-view bout from Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

Hearn says he’s going to move Brook forward to defend his title against possibly Juan Manuel Marquez, Tim Bradley or Marcos Maidana in the summer in a pay-per-view bout in the UK. Khan won’t be available to fight due to Ramadan.

That means that Brook will have to be content with facing one of the above mentioned fighters. However, even if Khan didn’t have Ramadan, he’ll likely continue to steer clear of Brook in order to wait on a fight against Pacquiao or Mayweather. Khan, of course, will take a fight or two in 2015, but we’re likely talking about a soft opponent without the power to put a dent in his chin.

“We were looking at Wembley in June but the problem with Khan is I’m not sure he can do that because of Ramadan [which starts on June 18]. He will have to fight in May or early June but I’m not sure Kell can do that because he’s fighting on March 28,” Hearn said via ESPN.co.uk. “I’m not too optimistic.”

Hearn needs to get a clue and forget about Khan as an opponent for Brook, because Khan has made it clear that he doesn’t want to face Brook. Khan recently said that Brook hasn’t proven himself yet by facing enough big named opponents for him to want to face him.

I don’t think Khan is going to change his mind about not wanting to fight Brook. He simply doesn’t want that fight and I doubt he’s going to change his mind in 2015. The only way I see Khan wanting to fight Brook is if and when Khan gets knocked out again or badly beaten by someone.

Once that happens, Khan will definitely be in the need of a big money fight because his career will be on skid-row. I just don’t know that boxing fans will be interested in seeing Khan-Brook after Khan gets stretched again. That’s why he’s better off taking the fight now while he still can.

“We are now turning our attention to Juan Manuel Marquez, who we are talking to this week in London, Marcos Maidana and Bradley because we want Kell Brook in a pay per view event this summer, June or July, at Bramall Lane,” Hearn said to ESPN.co.uk.

As for Brook, he’ll be defending his IBF title against his #1 IBF mandatory challenger Jo Jo Dan on March 28th in Sheffield. It’s not a big fight, but it’s something that Brook has got get out of the way. He can either take the fight now or get stuck with it later in the year. Hearn thought it was better to get it out of the way now given that Brook is coming off of a stabbing.
