Khan says Mayweather is running from him

khan54By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan’s growing frustration at being ignored by Floyd Mayweather Jr resurfaced today with Khan taking to twitter to lash out at Mayweather for his decision to put him on the ignore list when it comes to giving him a big payday fight.

Khan wants the Mayweather fight like mad, but Mayweather sees him as just another no name fighter that American casual fans have never heard of before. Khan is now slowly shifting his attention to Manny Pacquiao.

Khan asked his 1.4 million twitter followers if they’d like to see him fight Pacquiao next. By asking this many people, Khan is likely hoping that they can help drive up interest in a Khan-Pacquiao fight. I don’t know if it’ll work for Khan, but I guess he sees it as worth the try.

“Who wants to see Khan vs. Pacquiao because I know Mayweather’s running,” Khan said on his twitter.

I think we’ll soon see that Khan will get the same kind of results in his chasing of Pacquiao as he did with Mayweather. Khan simply doesn’t have the fan base in the United States for him to get a fight against Pacquiao. I mean, Khan would get the fight in a second if he were signed to Top Rank, the promotional organization that promotes Pacquiao. But why would Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum want to help out a fighter that is not signed with his organization like Khan, especially if there’s a slight hint that Khan could somehow get lucky and pull off an upset.

I personally don’t see Khan being able to hang with Pacquiao for 12 rounds unless he runs like crazy, holds, shoves and pulls down on the back of his head all night long like he’s done in many of his fights. Khan might survive using all of those tactics against Pacquiao, but he sure as heck isn’t going to beat him fighting like that.

If Khan wants a fight against Pacquiao, he’s going to need to start mouthing off a lot because he’s kind of behind in the curve right now. If Pacquiao doesn’t get the fight against Mayweather on May 2nd, then you can bet that that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum already has at least one or two backup guys from his stable to put in there with Pacquiao. Of course, Arum could change his mind and insert Khan into the mix as a potential replacement for Mayweather, but I tend to doubt it. Why would Arum want to let his nest egg fighter take a risk against a guy who fights off his back foot and looks to spoil a lot like Khan?

I just can’t see Arum letting Khan anywhere near Pacquiao, because it would likely result in Khan spoiling for 12 rounds and not fighting the kind of fight that Pacquiao is good at. He’s good at fighting guys that come to him, and Khan wouldn’t be doing that if they were to face each other. Khan would make it difficult by moving constantly and grabbing Pacquiao in headlocks, and other wrestling type moves to keep him from getting his shots off. Unless there was a good referee working the fight, I think Khan would dramatically limit the amount of punches Pacquiao throws with his various techniques.
