Khan has unfinished business with Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia

khan88By Scott Bells: So Amir Khan thinks he deserves a shot with Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao? Looking at his clear boxing skills and excellent speed, I actually think he could give both a competitive fight, however just because you could be competitive doesn’t mean you deserve it.

As an Englishmen, I would love to see the fight, but if I were Amir Khan, I would be pushing and pushing my promoter to get me back into the ring with either Lamont Peterson or Danny Garcia. Yes, they fight at light-welterweight but Garcia has said he wants to move up, is undefeated and carries a decent name that has seen him mentioned as a possible future Mayweather opponent.

Khan should be begging for this fight as Garcia is 100% beatable for Khan, and with his more cautious fighting style he would be able to run rings around Garcia for 12 rounds as he did for the first 3 in their original fight.

I don’t see anything exceptional about Garcia, although you have to give him credit for taking the match with Lucas Matthysse and doing what he had to to win which makes a win against him for Khan a big one.

Funnily enough, Devon Alexander also had a win against Matthysse and look what Khan did to him – I rate Alexander as a better boxer than Garcia as well.

Khan can also obviously take the Brook fight which would earn him plenty of money, a title belt and some big reputation points which he so badly needs if he is going to convince Mayweather that his name will bring in some PPV numbers, but either way, I feel he needs one more statement win, against an undefeated contender who has a world title to ‘earn’ the Mayweather fight.

Garcia and Brook seem to be the obvious candidates, especially as we all know he won’t want any part of Keith Thurman; like Gennady Golovkin at Middleweight, Thurman presents a higher risk, lower reward prospect, and one that, if I were Khan’s adviser, I would steer him far far away from.

Khan is indeed close to the dream, big time match, but he needs one more quality, high profile match up if he is to achieve true super-stardom with the biggest star in boxing.
