Brook: Khan would make more money fighting me than Mayweather

brook323552By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) wants to get Amir Khan in the ring so he can give him a beating and get the fight over with already. Brook, who is recovering from a knife attack, wants to face the 28-year-old Khan this year, but he’s not sure if Khan will finally agree to the fight.

Brook doesn’t understand what the holdup is for Khan, because he feels that he would make more money fighting him than he would Floyd Mayweather Jr, a fighter that Khan has been hounding for a fight for the last year.

Brook doesn’t understand why Khan wouldn’t take the bigger payday against him rather than waste time flapping his gums 24/7 about fighting Mayweather.

“He’d earn more money fighting me in a mega-fight in Britain than he would Mayweather,” Brook said via the Telegraph.co.uk. “If I’m such an easy opponent, and I’ve got a belt he can have, why not come and fight me? Come and beat me up easily like you’re saying, take this belt and this sack of money and away you go.”

The fact that Khan is willing to wait on fights against Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, which may never actually take place, would seem to suggest that there’s some fear there on Khan’s part in taking the Brook fight. After all, Brook is different from the mold of opponents that have been fed to Khan since he was knocked out by Danny Garcia in 2012.

Khan has been matched against guys without a ton of power. The one guy that could punch a little bit, Julio Diaz, arguably beat Khan in their fight in April 2013. I had Khan losing that fight after Diaz dropped Khan on his backside in the 4th, and had him hurt multiple times. I know it was the first fight for Khan under his trainer Virgil Hunter, but I thought Khan lost that fight and was given a hometown decision in London, UK.

Brook really needs to shut-up about Khan, because it’s painfully obvious that Khan isn’t interested in the fight with him. Instead of wasting his energy talking about Khan, Brook needs to try and establish that he’s not just another paper champion at 147, which a lot of boxing fans feel that he is. The top guys at 147 are Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Brook is kind of an afterthought at this weight, especially after his less than impressive win over Shawn Porter. Brook held all night long in that fight instead of letting his hands go, and it was just ugly to watch.
