Tyson Fury’s trainer sees him giving Wladimir the toughest fight of his career

fury55By Scott Gilfoid: Peter Fury, the trainer for unbeaten contender Tyson Fury (23-0, 17 KOs), believes that the 6’9” Fury could wind up giving IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) the toughest fight of his career next summer when the two giant heavyweights face each other.

Peter thinks that Fury’s mobility, youth and toughness will result in Wladimir struggling badly against him.

It’s not surprising that Peter is talking up Fury’s chances against the 6’6” Wladimir, because after all you wouldn’t expect him to say anything other than positive things about his nephew. However, the reality is that Fury hasn’t faced anyone remotely similar to Wladimir in terms of talent and fighting style, and Fury’s win over the 6’2” Dereck Chisora was a meaningless one due to Chisora not being a fighter you can compare to Wladimir.

Fury showed little improvement over the performance he put in three years ago when he beat Chisora in 2011. It was the same fighter and same performance. The only difference was that Chisora looked over-trained.

“I just think the movement, the sheer determination and the youth on his side, plus the sheer toughness of Tyson (will pose problems),” Peter said via Skysports.com. “Unless Wladimir can catch him absolutely clean and knock Tyson spark out, Tyson is going to give Wladimir a hell of a lot of trouble. Wladimir knows he’s in for possibly the hardest fight of his career.”

I see Fury as being a weaker version of Tony Thompson, and I believe this is going to be a much easier fight for Wladimir than his last one against the 6’4 ½” Kubrat Pulev. Wladimir stopped Pulev in the 5th round after knocking him down three times in the fight.

Believe me, if Wladimir was able to hit the defensive-minded Pulev clean with left hooks, you can bet that he’ll be able to nail the slow stork-like Fury with left hooks and with right hands. Wladimir didn’t hit Pulev with too many right hands in their fight, but you can bet that Wladimir will be able to land right hands against Fury due to him being so upright and hittable.

Fury doesn’t have the offensive weapons to keep Wladimir honest the way that Pulev, Corrie Sanders, Lamon Brewster and Ross Puritty did. Wladimir had to take those guys seriously due to the punching power that they possessed. But with the light hitting Fury, there’s nothing he can do to make Wladimir respect him. Nothing. Without power, Fury is going to be a sitting duck when he gets inside the ring with Wladimir.
