pac8888By Chris Williams: Jeff Mayweather, the uncle of WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr, believes that the soon to be 36-year-old Manny Pacquiao needs a fight against Mayweather Jr right now because he needs help. Jeff doesn’t say why Pacquiao needs help, but it could be that Jeff feels that Pacquiao needs money for one reason or another.

Jeff believes that Pacquiao twice had an opportunity to face Mayweather Jr, but he failed to take the fights when they were offered to him. Jeff specifically mentions 2010 and 2012 for when Pacquiao had an opportunity to face Mayweather.

In the first instance, Mayweather was ready to fight Pacquiao in 2010, but then Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum went in another direction by matching him against one of his Top Rank stable fighters Joshua Clottey rather than sticking it out to work out the differences in their negotiations.

In the second chance that Pacquiao had to fight Mayweather, he was reportedly offered $40 million to face Mayweather. But instead of facing him, Pacquiao opted to take on Juan Manuel Marquez for less money in a fight in which Pacquiao was knocked out in 6 rounds.

“Pacquiao didn’t want to take a blood test…Everybody knew what he was doing. It ain’t no secret,” Jeff M said to Fighthype.com “And then he was offered $40 million the next time. He’s not gonna see that kind of money nowhere else. So now all of a sudden, he’s coming at Floyd because he needs help. His [Pacquiao] punching power is gone now. It’s gone and of course nobody is stupid as to why it’s gone. He should’ve signed the damn contract when Floyd signed the contract for the fight.”

Jeff went on to say that it’s a fight where Mayweather would stand to gain very little if he took the fight. Jeff doesn’t say why Mayweather would gain much from the fight, but it could be due to the advanced age of Pacquiao and the fact that he’s been beaten by Tim Bradley and Marquez.

If Mayweather had whipped Pacquiao before he lost to those two fighters then he would have received much more credit than he would now. Beating Pacquiao now wouldn’t be a big deal because of his age, the fact that he’s beaten by other fighters, and because of his long knockout drought.
