Pacquiao is still behind Mayweather

jmm_ko_pacBy Babatis Banda: Talk is cheap and results are facts and say it all. Facts are facts and illusions, wishes and would-be scenarios are useless in the face of facts and in the real world we live in. It is a fact that Floyd Mayweather Jnr is the current king of the sport. He is at the helm of the beloved sport. We can argue all we want why he shouldn’t, or what ought to be and all, but it is useless.

The truth is, he is the prize fighter, the unbeaten king of the ring and he should be calling the shots as it is the tradition of this sport. If not, why is he the most expensive fighter to watch in the whole wide world?

Manny Pacquiao, as brave as we are told and as loved as he is by his kinsmen, he is second best at best. I say at best because he is definitely second best to Floyd Mayweather Jnr. He is the second most expensive fighter in the world. He has lost a hand-full of fights before and he remains a popular boxer irrespective of his losses. To the contrary, Floyd has remained on top of the sport purely because of his skill and winning ways. If Floyd had five losses, I doubt he would be that popular because of his persona. He is also deeply hated for his success.

Floyd has recently called out Pacquiao again, and excuses have started to pop-up as usual. The split of the money should not be the problem for two main reasons. The first is that Floyd is definitely the A-side in the negotiation. It is the tradition in this sport and it is the reason Marquez despite almost killing Pacquiao in a knock-out of the century, they could not offer Marquez anything close to $20M.

Second, Pacquiao himself when it suits him has gone on record to say he does not fight for the money. He has even gone to the extent of suggesting that they should fight for charity. Now that’s unrealistic. I doubt Pacquiao could have agreed to donate all his money after almost dying in that ring on that horrible night that tortured his wife, family and fans to unimaginable levels. I know that, that night still haunts a lot of his fans up to this day.

If this fight does not happen now because Arum opposes the date, don’t ever blame Mayweather ever again for this fight never happening. It is clear as daylight who is standing in the way and smearing dirt on Floyd. Pacquiao should be the man he claims to be, he should stand up and tell Arum he will take the smaller cut of the purse and he will fight on May 2. No one needs to worry if Avarez insists on fighting on May 2, he can still go ahead and play the game and we shall see how it pans out.

Let’s get it on, all of you that shouted above your voices that Floyd is a chicken. It seems the butcher is running from the chicken and the butcher has been exposed. It’s time for Pacquiao to prove to all of us how brave he is by standing up to Arum and telling him he wants to do it.
