Nelson thinks Fury can beat Wilder and Stiverne

fury9173By Scott Gilfoid: Sky Sports commentator Johnny Nelson believes that #4 WBO Tyson Fury (23-0, 17 KOs) has the talent to beat WBC champion Bermane Stiverne and unbeaten knockout artist Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs).

Nelson doesn’t, however, think that the 6’9” Fury can beat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, who Fury will be facing at some point in 2015. Nelson still believes that the 6’6” Wladimir has too much talent for Fury to deal with at this point.

Given how Fury looked last Saturday night in stopping Chisora in the 10th round, I find it hard to believe that Fury could beat a guy almost his own size like Deontay or someone with the kind of power that Stiverne has. I mean, these are guys that are arguably much better heavyweights than Chisora, and they’re not the type that would go into a fight with Fury and then just do zero all night long like Chisora did.

Deontay would be looking to take Fury’s head off with every punch, and sooner or later, he’d catch up to Fury and likely plant him the same way Steve Cunningham did. For his past, Stiverne has an excellent jab that he likes to use, and he’s got knockout power in either hand. He wouldn’t fight a stupid fight like Chisora did if he were to share the ring with Fury. Stiverne is a smart fighter, and he’s not going to lose his boxing IQ overnight just because he’s fighting the stork-like Fury.

“Looking at what we’ve seen from Wladimir, I would say he has a chance, but I don’t think he would win,” Nelson said via Skysports.com. “But there are still some cracking fights there. Deontay Wilder, Bermane Stiverne – they are fights that he can go in there, compete and win.”
I hate to rain on Nelson’s parade, but I see Fury doing equally poor against Deontay and Stiverne as he would against Wladimir.

Deontay and Stiverne are very good fighters, and they would be testing Fury’s chin in every round of the fight. They wouldn’t get discouraged the way that Chisora was. Deontay would be nailing Fury from the outside with overhand rights, and it would be surprising if Fury could even make it to the 2nd round. Once Deontay starts bouncing right hands off Fury’s chin, it would be only a matter of time before he knocks him out.
