Hearn: Haymon loves the Khan-Brook fight

khan88By Scott Gilfoid: British promoter Eddie Hearn says that Amir Khan’s adviser Al Haymon is interested in a fight between Khan and IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook. Hearn is hoping that a fight between Khan and Brook can get negotiated by January in order for the fight to take place at Wembley Stadium in the summer.

Unfortunately, Khan is still holding out for a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr in early 2015, even though Mayweather said that he has no interested in fighting Khan.

Mayweather’s comments were basically him shutting the door in Khan’s face for what will likely be the final time. But instead of Khan listening to what Mayweather is saying and moving on, Khan is still hoping he’ll get the fight against him in early 2015.

It’s hard to understand Khan, because he can make a possible $7 million facing Brook, but instead he’s holding out hope that Mayweather will change his mind and fight him.

Believe me, I don’t think Mayweather is going to change his mind about fighting Khan because the money just isn’t there for the fight, and Mayweather wants to make as much green cash as possible before he gets out of the game.

“The Khan fight is probably made by the end of January if it’s going to happen. The only conversation I’ve had is with Al Haymon, who loves the fight [between Khan and Brook],” Hearn said via the Telegraph.co.uk.

So far, Khan isn’t showing any signs that he’ll change his mind about fighting Brook, so I don’t see him sitting down to negotiate a fight with him in January. This could very well come back and bite Khan in the back side big time if he fails to get a fight against Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

If those fights don’t take place in 2015, then Khan is going to need to fight somebody. He already exhausted his one fight against the light hitting Devon Alexander, so he can’t go back to him. If Khan is going to be taken serious in the welterweight division, he’ll need to start to face the big punchers like Brook, Keith Thurman and Marcos Maidana.

Khan has just faced four consecutive non punchers in Carlos Molina, Julio Diaz, Luis Collazo and Devon Alexander. From here on out, Khan will need to face guys with power unless Haymon is going to raid the light welterweight division to start finding opponents for Khan. That’s not going to look good, is it?

I doubt that Haymon is going to match Khan with anyone that has the potential to beat him, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Haymon starts combing the 140 pound division in 2015 to find guys to match against Khan who are no threat to beating him.

I have no idea why Khan is so reluctant to fight Brook, but I have a feeling that there’s some fear there due to Brook being a big puncher. Khan could literally out-box Brook for 11 rounds and then get knocked out cold in the 12th round if he makes a mistake. That’s the whole problem for Khan facing Brook. There’s very little margin for error.
