chisora66By Scott Gilfoid: Former world title challenger Dereck Chisora (20-5, 13 KOs) says he’d like to return to the ring on February 28th on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s next fight in the UK.

Chisora was soundly beaten by Fury last Saturday night in losing by a 10th round stoppage at the ExCel Arena in London, UK. Chisora’s trainer Don Charles pulled him out of the fight due to him having absorbed too much punishment.

There was no way that Chisora was going to be able to score a knockout if the fight had continued, and his trainer did the wise thing in having the fight stopped after the 10th. In truth, Chisora’s trainer should have stopped the fight after the 6th round, because Chisora was little more than a round punching back for Fury, and he wasn’t putting up any kind of fight.

“@Tyson_Fury Congratulations on the win. Styles make fights and you outfoxed me on the night. Hope to share the bill with you on FEB 28th,” Chisora said on his twitter account.

At this point I’m not sure who Chisora can fight in terms of his career. I mean, I know Chisora wants to reload and climb back up the rankings so that he can get a title shot against one of the world champions, but I just don’t know that it’s possible for him to do so. Without the speed, power, size or work rate to beat the better heavyweights in the division, it would seem likely that Chisora’s destiny is to get stopped again once he steps it up again.

Yeah, Chisora can beat the 2nd and 3rd tier heavyweights like he was doing before his loss to Fury, but I don’t see any top contenders that Chisora can beat. I’m talking about real contenders, not fringe level fighters. I believe that Chisora will get routed if he gets put in with someone like Alexander Povetkin, Chris Arreola, Andy Ruiz Jr, Deontay Wilder, David Price, Bryant Jennings or Kubrat Pulev.

I’d like to see Chisora get in the ring with someone like Pulev though, because a win over him would be the quickest way back to the top for Chisora, but I just don’t think that’s a winnable fight for Chisora. Pulev would likely box Chisora’s ears off in winning a one-sided 12 round decision.
