Mayweather Promotions: The Real Deal or Gimmick ?

BR:   Upon the creation of Mayweather Promotions, I always had my doubts about the success that come of such a move. As of lately, words such as, catastrophe, bad luck, misadventure and mishap can all be used to describe the recent events. The real question is, could these issues have been avoided through professionalism?

As an avid boxing lover and student, I enjoy Floyd Mayweather…….inside the ring. Now many would argue including myself, that his personal life has no correlation to his career. Back then..YES, As of now…..NOOO! Mr. Mayweather is now a boxing promoter in many states including Nevada (NSAC), New York (NYSAC). Which mean every action he takes in the public eye is being examined closely. Let skim through the recent events: Mayweather’s comment on Ray Rice incident, Doghouse Sparring, Gambling, Ellerbe and Garcia departures and Luis Arias dropping.

The Mayweather gym is full of top class trainers from the Mayweather family to other experts on hand. But how do they compare to gym’s that don’t get the simple recognition such as: Robert Garcia Boxing Academy, Ten Goose Boxing Gym and etc. Upon the pedestal, current fighters are looking for a role model and leader in Floyd Mayweather, but he resonates a feel of a student more than a teacher. The proof is in the pudding for many to see, throughout the major shifts in boxing, many fighters have switched trainers/gym and never has a solid boxer come forth to the Mayweather gym. Floyd prides himself on his company being “The Past, Present and Future of Boxing”, but has yet to show an ounce of potential, besides ShoBox matches and his own chosen undercard match.

I have said this once and will say it again, for Mayweather to take a step into the next pinnacle, he needs to cut the tremendous amount of leeches and “groupies” in his circle. Pride himself with his old team and keep only a few people around for services. Grow his fighters and attract new fighters to his gym. Understand and explore and educate himself on the business of Promotions and “RULES” of the NSAC and other commission. Throw all the childish acts away and insecurities he shows through his actions, less talking and more doing and build and successful Promotion company.
