The only belt that Kovalev doesn’t have is the WBC strap held by Adonis Stevenson, a fighter who previously had the opportunity to fight Kovalev, but instead he moved on to Showtime.

Kovalev would like to get a shot at stevenson’s WBC title if possible, but he’s not going to make a big deal if the fight fails to take place. At this point Kovalev is well aware that he could find it difficult to get Stevenson in the ring despite Stevenson saying he’s interested in unifying the titles.

“Yes I would like to get WBC title. I don’t know what will be in the future,” Kovalev said. “Right now it is job of my promoter and manager. For me it doesn’t matter I just need to get one more title.”

It’s going to be up to Stevenson to decide if he feels confident enough to take the Kovalev fight, because right now it’s not looking like Stevenson is interested in the fight based on the guys he’s been fighting lately.

Stevenson will be fighting Dmitry Sukhotsky on December 19th at the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. In Stevenson’s title defenses since capturing the WBC belt in 2013, he’s beaten Tavoris Cloud, Tony Bellew, and Andzej Fonfara.

“We are interested in WBC title. We will fight whoever will be holding that title. That is who we will be aiming for, said Kovalev’s manager Egis Klimas. “If someone had told me earlier this year that Sergey would fight Bernard Hopkins and earn two more titles I would have asked them what are they were smoking. Things change every day. We are working towards becoming undisputed champion.”
