By Oliver Norager: Former WBC/WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-3, 35 KOs) is expected to make an announcement about his upcoming fight soon. Kessler hasn´t fought since his close decision loss to IBF/WBA champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) in May of 2013 in London, England. In that fight Kessler chose not to come out and fight Froch for the first 3 rounds and that cost him the entire fight. When Kessler chose to mix it up with Froch he always connected on Froch’s chin and Froch looked badly hurt at times, especially in the 11 round. The former champion Kessler didn’t fight Froch like in their first fight in Herning, Denmark in 2010. In that fight Kessler was the aggressor and was walking Froch down. Froch’s bravery and good chin held him up in that fight
Kessler has made no secret that he wants to fight Froch again, because he feels that he is capable of beating him, but Froch seems to be more dedicated to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in Las Vegas. WBA champion Andre Ward (27-0. 14 KOs) is another target for the Dane, but wants a fight against the American to take place in his home country of Denmark to try to avenge the defeat to Ward in 2009 in Oakland, USA. Kessler’s promoter Kalle Sauerland said to Danish newspaper BT: “I have been in New York the past few days to try a get a fight for Mikkel, but it is difficult because Mikkel only wants to fight the best, but we are finally ready to announce something soon”
With Kessler being off since his May 2013 loss to Froch and his wish to fight the best, Kessler is going to have a tough time getting an opponent with the class that Froch and Ward possesses. Ward does not seem to be willing to fight Kessler in Denmark, unless he is going to pay a fortune for that. Froch wants to fight Chavez in Las Vegas and possibly retire after that, so getting a good opponent for Kessler seems to be difficult.
Kessler could fight WBO champion Arthur Abraham (41-4, 28 KOs) for huge money, but Abraham is busy eyeing yet another Stieglitz fight and has been exposed in the past against Ward, Dirrell and Froch, so beating him doesn’t mean anything for Kessler, other than his bank account.
