rubioBy Dan Ambrose: WBC interim middleweight champion Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KOs) says he’s ready for war this Saturday night in his tough title challenge against World Boxing Association Super World middleweight title holder Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

While Rubio is a huge underdog in this fight, you have to consider him a threat to beat Golovkin due to his punching power and his aggressive style of fighting.

Rubio’s trainer Robert Garcia says he’s got what he feels is a good game plan for Rubio to use to pull off an upset in this fight. It’s going to be a lot of pressure from Rubio in this fight, as they want to force Golovkin into a quick pace dog fight that he’s not used to having to deal with.

Garcia doesn’t want Rubio to be scared in this fight because he feels that’s what most of Golovkin’s opponents come into his fights feeling. They show fear, and they fail to attack him the way they need to in order to win. Garcia doesn’t want Rubio to show Golovkin too much respect because if he does then he’ll be afraid to let his hands go the way Golovkin’s other opponents have.

The Golovkin-Rubio fight will be televised by HBO Championship Boxing along with the interesting co-feature bout between WBA super World featherweight title holder Nonito Donaire and Nicholas Walters.

This is one of the few fights in Donaire’s career where he’s not considered a huge favorite going into the fight. It’s going to be interesting to see how he does against an opponent that actually has a shot at beating him rather than some guy just picked out to be the B-side victim. Walters has the power, size, skills and youth to not only beat Donaire but knockout him out.

“It’s fight week! I’m ready for war. This is going to be interesting. Don’t miss it. I am MEXICANSTYLE#GolovkinRubio @HBOboxing,” Marco Antonio Rubio said on his Twitter today.
