donaire663By Daniel Hughes: The main focus this weekend will of course be on the main event at the Stubhub Center, in Carson, California, USA, will be Gennady Golovkin against Marco Antonio Rubio in a middleweight match up that will no doubt produce entertainment however long it lasts.

Many boxing sites, forums and column inches of course looking forward to seeing the brutal technician Golovkin in action in a fight against the tough, rugged Rubio a Mexican fighter that doesn’t buck the stereotype of fighters from that fighting nation.

It will be certainly worth watching. The main under card fight I expect to certainly serve up a potential war. It is a fight that certainly deserves any boxing fans attention.

Nonito Donaire (33-2-0 (21 KO’s) against Nicholas Walters (24-0 (20 KO’s), WBA super world featherweight title fight. This looks to me to be a real genuine 50-50 fight. Donaire, the better known fighter by far of the two to many boxing fans and writers, has a real hard test in front of him for me against the unheralded Nicholas Walters. Both fighters orthodox in style and both look to take the judges’ cards out of the equation, action not expected I would say mandatory, they both look to win inside the distance.

It will be a fight where I expect there will be little or no feeling out of each other. I expect the action to be intense from the start. The fact both fighters like to pressure, dominate and walk the opponent down tells you all what you would look to expect to see Saturday night. Nonito Donaire has power and has often looked in the past to have had the natural physical advantages at super-bantamweight over many opponents, size, reach as well as having genuine KO power. He has of course moved up in weight and the fight against Vetyeka almost asked as many questions as answers at featherweight in a controversial win. I feel Saturday night will be a true test of Donaire as main player at 126 lbs.

In Nicholas Walters you have a fighter that will be more than willing to trade with Donaire. He has the height and reach advantages over Donaire and you get the impression Donaire will certainly at times have to leave himself open to try to get Walters on the back foot. Donaire has never been a fighter to slowly box his way into a fight he commits to attack from almost the opening bell, his fighting template. It will make for explosive viewing as Walters has certainly showed himself to carry some seriously genuine power. He looks massive at the weight as well, but it is also a real step up for him in class. The fact he has a chance to really showcase his talents will not be lost on him. Walters will rightly know a win for him opens major doors.

The winner will no doubt go on to potential unification fights and lucrative fights in a division where you can certainly make some potentially excellent fights. The main event of course gets the focus, the main support fight may just steal the show well worth viewing. It will be worth it.
