bute3446By Oliver Norager: Former IBF Super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-2,24KOs) faces tough Argentinean Roberto Bolonti (35-3, 24 KOs) at the Bell Centre, Montreal on December 6. This fight will prove if the 34-year old Bute has something left in the tank. Bute has decided to team up with Hall of Fame-trainer Freddie Roach for the Bolonti fight.

Bute has, of course, seen what turnaround has done with Miguel Cotto’s career and wants to try do the same thing with his own career. Bute hasn’t looked as himself since he was beat by Carl Froch, in devastating fashion.

Bute has since then fought Denis Grachev, in a fight where he looked like a shadow of himself. He then fought Jean Pascal in a all Canadian-blockbuster fight, but Bute disappointed and choose not to fight Pascal before the 12 and final round, where Bute did have some success.

So far, Bute’s career has been kind of disappointing. He was IBF Champion for a couple of years, but his ability to get the big fights has inhibited his career. He choose not to take part in the “Super Six” tournament where the big guys like Kessler, Froch, Ward and Dirrell where part of it. Bute instead fought the likes of Edison Miranda, Brian Magee and Librado Andrade. Not big fights, yeah? When Bute decided to step it up against Pascal and Froch he was exposed badly and showed that he didn’t belong at that level.

At 34, Bute is in a kind of awkward situation, because he has shown that he can’t compete with the A-level guys, so he is trying to get some confidence by beating Bolonti, who is a B-level fighter. This guy has been beaten by Juergen Braehmer and Tony Bellew, by lopsided decision, both times and hasn’t beat any guys that you can call good. Mostly Bolonti has beating fighters with padded records who aren’t any good. But Bolonti is a decent operator, so if Bute looks like the guy who fought Pascal, he could be in trouble once again. With Roach on board Bute needs to back when he was throwing a lot of shots and especially some quality hooks and stay of the ropes, like he did against Grachev, Pascal and Froch.
