thurman666By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) has been talking lately about how he wishes Floyd Mayweather Jr would agree to fight him in the UK, because he feels it would be a huge fight if that were to happen.

Obviously it’s not going to happen I this lifetime since Mayweather isn’t going to use up one of his last remaining fights by fighting one of his B-side opponents in their home country. But there is a fighter who is willing to fight Khan in the UK, and that’s WBA interim welterweight champion Keith Thurman (23-0, 21 KOs). He’s saying he’ll go over to the UK, and he’ll knock Khan out as well.

Last Friday, Thurman called Khan out on national television on Showtime in the United States. Thurman said that Khan should fight him because he’s not going to get a fight against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook now. Brook is covering from being stabbed while on vacation, and there’s no way he can fight Khan in December. Since Khan doesn’t have an opponent yet for his December fight, then why not fight Thurman?

“Yeah, I’ll travel, man. I’m going to go there and I’m going to knock him [Khan] out,” Thurman said to Fighthype. “Amir Khan’s getting knocked out way easier than Kell Brook, in my opinion. If Danny Garcia got him with a left hook, I’m going to time him with a left hook. It’s only a matter of time and it only takes one time.”

The problem with Thurman knocked Khan out if he’s probably not going to ever get a chance to fight Khan during his career. Thurman could agree to fight Khan until he’s blue in the face, and I don’t see Khan saying yes to that fight.

I suspect Khan will veer around Thurman for the remainder of his career. I hope I’m wrong, but that’s how I see it. They both share the same adviser in Al Haymon, but that doesn’t mean anything.

Khan has a say so over the guys he fights, and I see him vetoing Thurman as his opponent if Haymon ever offers him as a choice, not that I see Haymon doing that. With the kind of matches that Haymon had made lately for his clients, about the best I can see Khan fighting in December in Josesito Lopez and that’s who Khan is expected to fight next.
