smith343By Conor Farrelly: Paul Smith Junior (35-3) challenges WBO Super-middleweight Arthur Abraham (40-4) on the 27th of September in Kiel Germany.

This is a fight which has raised certain eyebrows within boxing circles. The question of whether Paul Smith Junior is worthy of this opportunity is not an area which I will develop upon.

Any boxer who decides to enter a boxing ring will always have my respect. Michael Watson and Gerald McClellan are examples of the devastating consequences which come about from entering the ring.

From recent interviews I have observed, Paul Smith is aware that this is a huge opportunity and perhaps his only opportunity to fulfil his dreams of becoming a world champion. Arthur Abraham with respect would be the weakest of the super middleweight champions compared to Froch, Ward or even Dirrell. However, Arthur Abraham is a two weight world champion and has fought at an elite level compared to Paul Smith. He has entered the ring with the likes of Andre Ward, Carl Froch, Robert Stiegiltz and so on.

Therefore, from an outsider looking in this should be a walk in the park for Abraham. However, with rumors circulating that Abraham is taking the Liverpool man with a pinch of salt and Smith training very hard I do not believe this to be an easy fight for Abraham. Like everything in life you always need a bit of luck along the way. Therefore, for Smith to win he would need to have the fight of his life and for Abraham just not to be at the races. From, my own personal perspective I would hope Paul Smith wins as it would be nice for him to become a World Champion.

But does the cream always come to the top and this will be a win for Arthur Abraham. Only time will tell.
