Pacquiao talks Mayweather

By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao took to twitter today to take a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr about his testimony he had made to the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Tuesday in which Mayweather explained a few incidents that took place in Showtime’s All Access: Mayweather vs. Maidana 2, episode 2.

Mayweather calmly told the Nevada Commission that there were a few incidents that took place that weren’t what they appeared to be for the viewers that saw the program.

“Floyd Mayweather’s testimony to the commission on All Access authenticity tells me everything I need to know about his desire to fight me,” Pacquiao said on his Twitter.

I don’t see how Mayweather’s testimony with the Nevada State Athletic Commission has anything whatsoever to do with what Mayweather desire to fight Pacquiao. Its apples and oranges.

Mayweather already offered Pacquiao $40 million to fight him in 2012, and the fight didn’t happen. Alex Ariza, Pacquiao’s old strength and conditioning coach, said that Mayweather was going to offer Pacquiao a cut of the pay-per-view money, which would have bumped Pacquiao’s pay from $40 million to as much as $100 million.

Instead of taking the fight with Mayweather, Pacquiao chose to fight Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012 and received a small fraction of the money that he could have made in a fight against Mayweather. In 2010, Mayweather attempted to fight Pacquiao, but they couldn’t work out the blood testing that Mayweather wanted for the fight.

Mayweather does want to fight Pacquiao, says Ariza, but not with Bob Arum around. Since Pacquiao signed another extension with Top Rank, that kind of leaves him out of the Mayweather sweepstakes for the next two years until his contract with Top Rank expires at the end of 2016. But it’s not as if Pacquiao didn’t have a heads up by Mayweather ahead of time that he wouldn’t fight him if Arum was involved.

Mayweather had made it public before Pacquiao re-upped with Arum and Top Rank that he wouldn’t fight him with Arum around, so it’s not as if this is news that Mayweather isn’t fighting Pacquiao now. If Pacquiao didn’t get the word ahead of time about this then he needs to question his team for why they didn’t tip him off to that important point.
