Pacquiao takes another shot at Mayweather

pac7848By Chris Williams: Former 8 division world champ Manny Pacquiao has come out of the woodwork again to take a shot at WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr after his retaliatory shot at the 35-year-old Pacquiao on Twitter.

Mayweather unloaded on Pacquiao this past week in what appears to be a retaliatory response due to Pacquiao saying “Floyd Mayweather’s testimony on All Access authenticity tells me everything I need to know about his desire to fight me.”

This was a comment made by Pacquiao based on some of the remarks that Mayweather had made when speaking to Nevada State Athletic Commission last week when Mayweather was asked to speak to them about his All Access episode 2 on Showtime for his Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 fight.

Pacquiao could have easily stayed quiet about this, but instead he took a shot at Mayweather on his twitter.

Mayweather stayed quiet for 2 days following that initial blast from Pacquiao, but then he opened up on him on his twitter by saying that Pacquiao is “broke and desperate for a payday” and “Your pay-per-view numbers are a joke.”

Pacquiao didn’t take long for him to come back with his own rebuttal to Mayweather.
“I’m not angry at him,” Pacquiao said to gmanetwork.com. “I still feel sorry for him, because he acts like an uneducated person. It’s pitiful to me and I pray for him.”

Mayweather might not realize this but he’s probably helping increase fan interest in Pacquiao’s November 22nd fight against Chris Algieri, because with no one speaking about that fight on a regular basis and fans seemingly not too excited about the fight, Mayweather is increasing interest in the fight.

The more Pacquiao name drops Mayweather’s name the more likely fans will purchase Pacquiao’s fight against Algieri on PPV, thinking that maybe Pacquiao and Mayweather will be fighting next year. That obviously isn’t going to happen, but the more Mayweather’s name is mentioned by Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum, the more likely that some gullible boxing fans will get the idea that the two fighters will be facing each other.

I just wonder what’s going to happen when Mayweather eventually retires from boxing. If Pacquaio is still bringing up his name, I don’t think it’s going to have the same positive effect with fans thinking they’re going to be soon fighting unless they’re totally in the dark about Mayweather having retired.
