Mayweather clears up All Access issues with Nevada Commission

floyd93By Chris Williams: WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr met with 5 members of the Nevada State Athletic Commission earlier today to discuss a couple of issues that were of concern to the Commission from one of Showtime’s recent All Access: Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 episodes.

The Commission members specifically took issue with a scene where Mayweather was seen with a group of girls smoking marijuana, a substance that is illegal in Nevada at this time. The other issue that the Nevada Commission had problems with was a 31-minute “doghouse rules” sparring session that took place between pro fighter Hasim Rahman Jr and an amateur named Donovan Cameron.

Mayweather informed the Commission that the marijuana was fake and it was just used more for a staged effect. As for the sparring, it wasn’t 31 minutes of continuous sparring. There were breaks for the fighters. The gambling was also staged as well.

Everything was taken care of by Mayweather and his attorney with them clearing up the Commission’s questions that had on those points. At the end of the meeting, the meeting ended on a positive. There will be no punishment of Mayweather. The meeting was just the Commission wanting to hear about what they’d seen, and it wasn’t about any kind of disciplinary activity.

With reality shows like All Access, some of the things that are seen are contrived and not what they seem. This was the case with the sparring, gambling and marijuana use that we saw on the 2nd episode of the Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 All Access. With a million cameras around, some aspects of the show aren’t going to be reality based because of the camera crew and the cost of setting up shoots. You can’t just stick a camera in front of people all the time and expect to see pure gold, although Mayweather was pure gold each time he had the camera on him during the episodes.

The Commission wants to know in the future about which items in Mayweather’s All Access are non-reality based so that they can have a heads up about them rather than be in a reactionary state like they were after seeing the controversial episode 2 of the Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 All Access.

Mayweather’s All Access shows have been highly success in attracting interest in his fights, and this latest ones were highly entertaining to the boxing fans that saw them.
