Floyd Mayweather: Can’t beat him, join him

floyd74By Victor Candelario: Since the age of 10 I distinctly remember watching Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26 KOs) fights and praying for every fighter that stepped in front of him to beat him. The closest thing we got to Floyd losing was Jose Luis Castillo, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto and Marcos Maidana, but let’s face it, they lost.

They had their moments where they made Floyd look uncomfortable but as all great fighters do; Mayweather adjusted and cruised to decisions in all 4 of those fights. He absolutely destroyed a prime Diego Corrales, and he made Ricky Hatton look like an old man at the age of 28. Mayweather absolutely embarrassed Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (though I felt like Canelo’s game plan to outbox Floyd was a horrible one and I don’t know what his corner was thinking).

Shane Mosley hurt Mayweather bad when they met (which sent me into a frenzy) but did nothing afterwards to capitalize on it. Zab Judah would have did 100 times better if he focused more on his career and less on partying (he definitely had the same if not, more speed then Floyd when they met).

While I do think a prime Mosley would beat a prime Floyd, and a hardworking Judah would give him a run for his money, Floyd is the best of the best right now. He has proven it day in and day out, we can’t let his flashiness and confident ego blind us from seeing his boxing brilliance in the ring. Floyd’s defensive skills are impeccable, his counter punching is precise, and his ring generalship is unmatched. I will probably receive a ton of negative backlash for this but even the great Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) will not solve Mayweather Jr it will just be more of the same. Before the assumption is made that I hate Pacman, in no way shape or form do I hate Manny he is another 1st round Hall of Famer and one of the best boxers of my generation, but as good as he is, Manny will not beat Floyd should they ever meet.

I doubt they will for reasons none of us truly understand (People say Manny is ducking Floyd, others say Floyd is ducking Manny, it’s all a bunch of he say, she say I don’t know the truth) but I feel if they do Floyd will win another decision. It won’t be easy, if anybody has the skill-set or speed to keep up with Floyd its Manny Pacquiao, but one would have to think the way Floyd exposed Juan Manuel Marquez he could just as easily expose Manny Pacquiao. Remember, Juan Manuel Marquez had Manny Pacquiao’s number his entire career, some might even say Marquez got robbed in 2 of those fights (Before he knocked Manny out of course). I want to see him fight Manny only so that he finally silences those who truly believe Manny would beat Floyd. It will make for an exciting matchup and pretty much cap off Floyd Mayweather’s legacy.

After years of praying (Like so many others) for Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr to finally lose, I only want to see him win. The people can hate Floyd all they want but at the end of the day, you have to respect him. He wins, every fight we have hoped for his failure, and every fight he came out victorious. I never thought I’d be writing this article or even have the courage to say that he would ultimately beat Manny Pacquiao should they meet in the near future. But after years of praying for him to finally lose I’ve come to the conclusion that “If you can’t beat him, join him.”
