Deontay Wilder to Stiverne: Get your man Don King to give us a date and site!

deontay8By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs) is seemingly growing tired of the delay in his fight negotiations with WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) for their World Boxing Council ordered fight.

The two fighters’ teams have been in negotiations, but as of yet no deal has been made for a fight between them. Wilder’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions says he’s optimistic that a deal will be made before tomorrow’s purse bid, but it’s unclear if that’s going to happen.

Today is the last day for the two fighters’ teams to agree to the negotiations. If they can’t agree by the end of today, then it’ll go to the WBC scheduled purse bid tomorrow, October 1st.

“@BSTIVERNE get your man Don King to give us a Date & Site so we can get this party started, why King always got to be so difficult #SCARED,” Deontay said on his Twitter last night.

I have a feeling that this is going to go to purse bids without two fighters’ teams having agreed on a deal. Once it goes to a purse bid, it will give Stiverne’s promoter a good chance of out-bidding Golden Boy for the fight.

It’s unclear where King would want the fight to be staged between them. If he takes it out of the United States, the fight might not do well. The best place they can stage the Deontay-Stiverne fight is either Deontay’s home state of Alabama or Stiverne’s current home city of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Deontay, 6’7”, has a good chance of beating Stiverne and taking the WBC belt. As we saw in Stiverne’s last fight against Chris Arreola last May, Stiverne was shook up at one point early in the fight after getting nailed by some big shots from Arreola.

The thing is Arreola doesn’t have anywhere near the same punching power as Deontay does. If Deontay can land the same kinds of shots that Arreola was hitting Stiverne with for 6 rounds, this fight won’t likely go more than 2 or 3 rounds.
