By Jim Dower: In the main event, #4 WBC Grigory Drozd (39-1, 27 KOs) outworked and clinched his way to a 12 round unanimous decision over World Boxing Council cruiserweight champion Krzysztof “Diablo” Wlodarczyk (49-3-1, 35 KOs) on Saturday night at the Dynamo Palace of Sports in Moscow, Russia.

The final judges’ scores were 118-108, 119-108 and 119-108. Drozd used the punch and grab technique to perfection in hitting and holding. Wlodarczyk didn’t help himself by failing to throw enough punches in the fight. Wlodarczyk was knocked down in the 8th round. Wlodarczyk attempted to rally in the last 4 rounds of the fight, but he kept looking for a single shot instead of letting his hands go.

In a predictable outcome, World Boxing Association cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (26-2, 20 KOs) destroyed #4 WBA Pawel Kolodziej (33-1, 18 KOs).

Lebedev, the much stronger puncher of the two, tagged the lanky 6’4″ Kolodziej with a left to the head in the 2nd round that put him down. Kolodziej was far too hurt to get to his feet and continue to fight.

The outcome was a predictable one because the 34-year-old Kolodziej had built a 10-year resume of little more weak opposition instead of quality fighters. This is how Kolodziej was able to come into the fight with an unbeaten record instead of one filled with a number of previous defeats.

Lebedev was so much better than Kolodziej tonight that it was clear that Kolodziej was in no way prepared for this level of fighting and he should have been still fighting at a lower level against contenders instead of fighting for a world title against one of the best fighters in the division.

The main event between World Boxing Council (WBC) cruiserweight champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk and Grigory Drozd is a similar type of fight. It hasn’t taken place yet, but you can expect the same type of results. Drozd doesn’t have the experience against quality opposition to be facing someone as good as Wlodarczyk, and we’re likely to see Drozd get blown away quickly in this fight.
