Carl Froch vs. James Degale for the IBF world title likely in February/March at the City Ground

froch9993By Cameron Gillon: According to Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, Carl Froch has been mentioning about fighting again soon and is getting that hunger back to box after nearly four months post to his big Wembley world title showdown with George Groves in May this year.

Carl Froch has recently been taking a break from boxing by doing Tumble, a acrobatic dancing programme on TV. Eddie Hearn met with Froch a few times recently to plan out his next move.

Carl Froch has expressed his desire to fight in Las Vegas against Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in what would likely be his last fight. However that fight seems to be gone yet again as Hearn has had no luck in getting Chavez to fight Froch anytime soon, Chavez isn’t the most reliable fighter in the sport, he has only had two fights in the past two years against Brian Vera, his last big fight was against Sergio Martinez in which he lost his WBC middleweight title in 2012.

Hearn and Froch are now looking to fighting Froch’s mandatory fighter James Degale in February or March 2015 at the Nottingham Forrest outdoor stadium the City Ground. This is odd to me as Froch has shown least interested in fighting Degale but it looks like he has no choice but to fight Degale as Chavez is a no, and a third fight with Mikkel Kessler is even more irrelevant due to the fact Kessler hasn’t fought since losing to Carl Froch in May 2013 so he is going to be ring rusty and will likely get beat again.

Froch vs Degale is a interesting match up, its another big domestic fight not on the level of Froch/Groves but one that would sell out the city ground, Froch put a voting poll up on his facebook page with a list of opponents his fans would like to see him fight, Chavez, Degale and Gennady Golovkin, Golovkin was ahead by a clear margin in that poll with Chavez a close 2nd and Degale a distant 3rd which shows that Froch really is going to have to take the smaller fight as i can’t see him fighting Golovkin, GGG is a dangerous fight with very hard hitting power and although his style suits Froch, you have to think whether or not Froch could take Golovkins shots all night, Golovkin would likely KO Froch if he was hitting him all night, Froch has been put over by Jermain Taylor and George Groves so the likelyhood of Golovkin doing it, is likely.

Froch shoul Golovkin to prove he will fight anyone like he says he has done and will do in his career, Golovkin needs to face a elite fighter and Andre Ward doesn’t seem at all interested and isn’t even active anymore, Froch is Golovkins best chance of getting a big fight right now, Golovkin has a fight with Marco Antonio Rubio coming up and if he wins that, he could face Froch is he took the fight with Golovkin and still keep his middleweight titles whilst waiting to get the shot at the WBC title which he would come mandatory for if he beats Rubio.
