Carl Froch still wants to fight in Las Vegas, Nevada

froch6By Scott Gilfoid: After wiping out George Groves in back to back domestic fights, IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) is still hoping he can fight in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2015, even though the guy that he wants to face, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, doesn’t appear to be an opponent that his promoter Eddie Hearn will be able to line up for him.

Froch could easily get a fight against one or both of the Dirrell brothers in 2015 in Las Vegas if he was really excited about fighting over there, because the Dirrell’s would readily agree to fight Froch in Vegas, but I have my doubts whether Froch would want to take that kind of a risk with his legacy.

“I’m trying to hang in for Las Vegas,” Froch said to the BBC Radio Nottingham. “It’s the fight capital of the world and many of my heroes have boxed there. I have not ever been there to fight, but it would tick a massive box in my wonderful career.”

Like I said, Froch can always fight in Las Vegas anytime he wants to, but he can’t be so selective for that to happen. If all he wants to fight is Chavez Jr, then yeah, he probably won’t be fighting in Vegas in 2015 and likely not ever. But if Froch is willing to test himself against fighters that are arguably better than Chavez Jr in the Dirrell brothers, Andre Ward or Gennady Golovkin, then he should be able to easily get a fight against one of those names under the bright lights of Las Vegas.

Froch is scheduled to fight on January 3st at the O2 Arena in London, UK. His promoter Hearn likes the idea of Froch fighting his #1 IBF mandatory challenger James DeGale at that time. However, Froch recently said that he’s not motivated to take that fight because it’s not one that interests him a great deal, and it’s not a fight that the fans want to see him take. The fans want to see Froch fight Golovkin and Chavez Jr. Froch could wind up facing 35-year-old Mikkel Kessler next rather than a more relevant fighter.

Froch could also wind up fighting at Nottingham’s Forest City Ground in 2015 at some point if he doesn’t get the fight he’s looking for in Las Vegas.
