porter6By Jamie Fairclough: Firstly its been a while since my last article and I hope its not too much of a disappointment. So lets get down to it, there are a number of upcoming fights that are intriguing im going to pick 5 and make this into a series of articles so I can fully explore each fight and the options it opens up.

Kell Brook v Shawn Porter

This is a much tighter match-up than most boxing fans realize, while it Is true Brook has fought his fair share of lets say 2nd and 3rd tier fighters however he has faced Carson Jones and Viacheslav Sencenko who are decent fighters who were hovering around world level.

Porter has fought these 2nd and 3rd tier guys too so it’s a little unfair that most just view Brook’s record as being padded, he too has faced a couple decent opponents in Paulie Malignaggi and Devon Alexander, however neither of these guys are big punchers. Porter is a step up for Brook however I believe Brook is a step up from Malginaggi and Alexander simply put he can both bang and box but we will get to that later.

Their differing styles is what makes this such an interesting fight porter is known to like to use his strength to bully his opponent around the ring, he won’t be able to do this with brook because of brooks size and athleticism, brook on the other hand likes to flick between trying to box his opponent and controlling the tempo of the fight to trying to force the stoppage hence why I said he can bang and box.

So who do I think will win? Well that very much depends on porter and if he is a one trick pony who can only win when he can physically bully his opponent and whether he can
