By Chris Williams: WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) has had it real good in his last two fights. He made over $72 million combined for his fight against Marcos Maidana and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Mayweather is now about to scoop up another $30 million for his rematch against Maidana next month on September 13th.

With easy money like that to be got, Mayweather doesn’t need to retire anytime soon. If he keeps moving forward he’s going to be on his way to a net worth of $300 million. It’s got to be a dream for Mayweather to have that kind of money. The best houses, cars, swimming pools, health care, neighborhoods all the beautiful people that surround him.

It’s all about Mayweather’s legacy at this point. It’s not so much the money, but that comes with it. He wants to beat the top dogs at 147 and maybe some of the top guys at 154 before he walks away from the sport. There’s only a few names left for him that are really worth anything. Mayweather is kicking around the idea of getting to 50-0 before he retires, and even then it’s possible that he might continue fighting.

From a money perspective, Mayweather can probably pull in around $35 million for a fight against Amir Khan. That’s a good fight for next year on Cinco de Mayo. The only guys left after Mayweather fights Khan is Kell Brook and Keith Thurman. Those fights are identical to Maidana in terms of cash Mayweather can make.

We could see Mayweather clean the division fully by beating those last names before moving up to 154 and fighting Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Miguel Cotto one more time. Those guys would be good for $40 million each. If Bernard Hopkins is still around, it would be nice to see Mayweather and him fight each other at 154. There would have to be a rehydration limit to keep Hopkins from blowing up to 180 after he made weight.
