Maidana: I’m going to take this clown’s [Mayweather] undefeated record

maidana6By Dan Ambrose: Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) sees WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 Kos) as having more to lose potentially than he does in their fight on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather is unbeaten and is considered to be the No1 fighter in all of boxing; whereas Maidana is just some guy who has already been beaten by 4 other fighters, and who almost lost to a shot Erik Morales.

A loss for Mayweather in this fight could potentially hurt him in terms of pay-per-view sales. But it also could help him because even more boxing fans would tune in to see his next fight.

“He’s [Mayweather] got a lot to lose. I know he’s not invincible,” Maidana said. “I know I can punch him and knock him out. I have my style, but I can make corrections. It’s very hard to get a clean punch on him, but it’s possible. It’s very possible. He’s a good salesman when it comes to the fight and the spectacle. But that doesn’t intimidate me.”

Mayweather doesn’t need to be invincible in order to beat Maidana on September 13th. He just needs to be good enough to beat him for a second time and then he can move on. If Maidana loses a second fight to Mayweather then that’s the end of the show for Maidana. He can calm himself by saying that Mayweather isn’t invincible after he loses to him, but it won’t matter.

Mayweather will move forward with his career while Maidana tries to pick up the pieces of what’s left of his. That’ll be Maidana’s second straight loss, and it’ll hurt. Losing two straight fights is never a good thing, even when those defeats come against Mayweather.

“The glove incident was a circus,” Maidana said. “It doesn’t bother me. If I’m going to beat him, I can do it with any gloves. I’m going to take this clown’s undefeated record. He thinks he’s going to intimidate me, but I’m not afraid. I’m not afraid of anyone on this earth, of no man. I don’t give a [expletive] about this guy.”

When you see people talking about not being afraid of anyone, like you see with Maidana, it tells me that there’s a lot of fear there with Maidana. He says one thing but I believe he’s very afraid of what’s going to potentially happen in the ring on September 13th.
