Khan saying he wants Alexander or Guerrero for December fight

khan4444By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan says he’s interested in facing either Robert Guerrero or Devon Alexander for his next fight in December if the two are available. Khan mentioned wanting to fight one of them in the UK or Dubai.

That’s probably not going to happen, but it’s okay for Khan to wish. Khan says he still wants to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao in the future. Interestingly enough, he says the Mayweather fight didn’t happen this year because of Ramadan.

I’m not sure that Khan would have gotten the Mayweather fight even if there wasn’t Ramadan at the end of the year.

Mayweather recently said that Khan still has losses to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia that he needs to avenge. Mayweather was being nice in not including Breidis Prescott’s name to that bunch, because a lot of boxing fans would have added his name to the list given that he destroyed Khan in one round in 2008, and Khan never bothered to try and avenge the loss.

“I need a tickover fight in December,” Khan said via BBC.com. “Opponent-wise we have looked at a few names, such as Devon Alexander or Robert Guerrero, but we have not confirmed anything just yet. We have to make sure they are available at the time.”

Tickover fight? In other words, Khan is calling Alexander and Guerrero stay busy fights for him. I’m not sure that I would lump either of them in the category of being a tickover fight. I mean, I don’t rate Guerrero and Alexander in the same class as Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter, but I still think they’re both more than capable of giving Khan his 4th defeat of his career, provided that Khan doesn’t grab then in head locks and pull down on their heads each time they attempt to get their offense in gear.

In Khan’s last fight against Luis Collazo, Khan used this punch and grab technique all throughout the fight, making it virtually unwatchable. He’d throw some shots, move around the ring and then snatch Collazo by the head and put him in a head-lock or pend his head forward to where his was facing the canvas while Khan cranked on his neck. It was real MMA type moves and the referee Vic Drakulich working the fight just let Khan make these moves without taking points off.

Josesito Lopez was mentioned as the likely opponent for Khan this past week, and it’s still possible that Khan will end up facing him.
