Kell Brook – The new Danger man at 147

brook87555By Rav: Last Saturday night, Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) put on a boxing master-class to become the first British fighter to win a world title in America in 28 years by schooling IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter in a 12 round decision victory at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Kell looked well prepared made the weight well and looked in exceptional shape ready for 12 rounds. He handled and nullified Porter’s early onslaught raging in like a bull well and made him miss and countered him well letting Porter burn energy in the early rounds.

Early in the fight, Kell suffered a cut from Porters head but remained ice cool not even flinching when his trainer Dominic Ingle told him not to worry about the cut but some fighters can panic and let it affect their concentration but Brook was unmoved and continued to box the same way.

Porter began to slow down in the middle rounds and started to taste some of Kell’s power shots and then knew this kid can hit a bit so I better not go in as much, but Kell was still able to nullify Porter coming in like a bull and continued to make him miss. Kell moved well slipped and slid Porters swings and held him well stopping him fighting dirty on the inside and kept countering catching Porter with clean and crisp power shots.

Brook kept his cool and kept his concentration, showed great ring intelligence and paced himself well for 12 rounds and didn’t take chances when he didn’t need to as he was schooling Porter with his skills so didn’t have to open up and brawl to go for a knockout.

Boxing justice was done and no politics came in to play and Brook was rightfully the winner claiming his first world title. Brook has opened up the flood gates with this win and now a potential fight with Amir Khan is on the cards.

Khan kept saying Brook needs to prove himself, but the facts were Brook was too high risk to fight but now with a world title on the line the risk has balance as Khan will want to win a world title for the first time too at welterweight.

Brook has all the bargaining power now and the other fighters in the welterweight division now will have to go to the UK to fight Brook not unless he is offered huge money to fight in America. But Brook also sells tickets well and with Sky PPV behind him will become a PPV start as his style of fighting is very marketable with the UK fans and with the right opponents he will do well with PPV.

Khan isn’t a big ticket seller in the US and hasn’t headlined a PPV card. He had to fight Paulie Malignaggi in New York, who sold the fight.

Khan’s fight with Danny Garcia in Las Vegas sold poorly ticket-wise, but in the UK he will sell tickets but so will Brook. But Khan won’t be the drawer he has been in his previous fights being the money fighter always. Khan you could argue had an easier route to a word title that Brook spoke about previously fighting at home against a poor champion in Andriy Kotelnik, but then Khan lost his titles to better opposition in Lamont Peterson and Garcia. Both fighters were in their primes but early on in Khan’s career was knocked out by Breidis Prescott in a fight that wasn’t even a world title fight.

Brook was criticized regarding his level of opponents going into the Porter fight.

When you cut out all the BS, the truth is Khan has fought past their prime softer punchers than Brook, but when he has fought bigger punchers in their prime, he has been beaten. Khan should have been stopped by Marcos Maidana too in their fight in 2010, and now everyone is getting excited about Khan beating an over the hill Luis Collazo. Collazo had been beaten by the likes of Ricky Hatton and Andre Berto in the past.

The tables have turned and no doubt Brook will go on to fight better opposition and is already in a better position than Khan who claims to be a superior boxer.

Brook beat an in his prime Porter on American soil, which Khan never did. If Khan is truthful to himself in his own head privately he’ll know deep down he could lose to Brook.

I believe Brook has the beating of Khan and predict Khan would start fast and win some early rounds. Brook would adjust and hurt Khan with accurate clean shots in the middle rounds.
I predict Brook to catch Khan late on dropping him but winning by decision. Khan has been caught by less accurate punchers and is easy to hit and I don’t see Brook having any problem catching Khan. Khan cannot knock Brook out but can he box Brook for 12 rounds out pointing him I don’t see it. You’ll remember reading this when that fight is made and concluded.
