Hearn says Brook vs. Mayweather will sellout Wembley Stadium

floyd11233By Scott Gilfoid: If IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22 KOs) is still a belt holder by late 2015, his promoter Eddie Hearn thinks a fight between him and WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) is a possible fight that can be made between the two fighters.

That, of course, will hinge on Brook defeating his December 6th opponent and then beating former IBF/WBA 140 pound champion Amir Khan in their proposed mega fight at Wembley Stadium in London, UK. If all those cards fall perfectly on the table, we could see a Brook-Mayweather fight. I mean, it’s possible, yeah, but not all that likely.

“There are three champions in the welterweight division, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Kell Brook,” Hearn said to skysports.com. “It’s wonderful company and a fight with either of those is a unification fight and a big fight. I think Kell has to establish his profile more in the States, command some more impressive victories, and then definitely in the mix for Floyd Mayweather in 2015. Why not?”

I think it’s going to take a really good opponent for Brook in December and a Khan fight in early 2015 for Mayweather to show interest in taking a fight against Brook. Just Brook beating Shawn Porter, some likely 2nd tier fighter that Hearn digs up for Brook on December 6th, and then a win over Khan isn’t going to likely be enough to interest Mayweather.

Hearn is going to need to show some confidence in Brook by allowing him to fight someone good in December if he wants to interest Mayweather. The names – Brandon Rios, Andre Berto, Josesito Lopez and Robert Guerrero – that Hearn mentioned this week for Brook’s next fight have been disappointing. I’d like to see better quality than that for someone getting a title shot against Brook. None of them rate right now. Guerrero was beaten by Mayweather just two fights ago. Rios isn’t ranked in the top 15 and neither is Lopez. How is it that Rios, Lopez or Berto going to be approved for Brook if none of them are ranked in the top 15?

“If Floyd fancies something special, I’m sure we wouldn’t have a problem selling out Wembley with that one,” Hearn said.
