floyd11233By Idris Morrey: Recently, WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KO’s) declared he has a special opponent in mind for the fans after the September 13 rematch with Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs). The pound for pound long reigning champion called it a surprise to mark on the calenders and fans have not stopped guessing. Media houses, popular blogs and our very own Boxing News 24 paraded possible names for the May 2014 showdown but it all pointed at Bob Arums’ stable of Top Rank.

A photo circulating around the social media today could be confirming our guesses. A Money team labelled van was spotted outside Top Rank gym. It is now clear that Mayweather Promotions and Bob Arum of Top Rank could be talking business again. And what a good reunion it could be for both of these boxing powerhouses who posses arguably the best boxers in the sport right now.

The mending fences for Arum and Mayweather could be solely to revive the falling boxing business but then that is where we the fans will benefit once more from the matching of the best vs the upcoming threats. Golden boy promotions had earlier stated the end of a long standing bad blood between the and Top rank. Hoping Mayweather’s company is following suit, glory days may be coming back to our rings, arenas and screens.

Their top fighters, Floyd and Manny Pacquiao have been threatening the sport with retirement since 2010 and its time they settle for a fight that will clear the mystery on who has been the best and who will retire beaten.

About their pay purses, we might not know much but it might not be a 50-50 deal. Pacman lost his star attraction status because of his cherry picking of weak opponents, his losses to Bradly and a KO by Manuel Marquez and has then been unable to record high pay per view numbers and sold out crowds. He will have to settle for a much smaller share and be happy.

Mayweather too has been criticized on recent occasions for his boring fighting style. However, Mayweather adjusted during the May 3rd fight with Maidana, which left fans wanting a rematch due to the competitiveness of the fight. It has been so far so good winning streak for Mayweather and registering a convincing win over the Filipino politician will put final touches of gold to his already glorious career.

Lets hope that finally the two top boxing promoters will give us the much anticipated news of one of the best match-ups in the history of boxing.
