dirrell(Photo Credit/Goossen Promotions) By Scott Gilfoid: Andre Dirrell (21-1, 14 KOs) will be fighting tonight against Vladine Biosse (15-4-2, 7 KOs) on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights from the Little Creek Casino Resort, in Shelton, Washington, USA.

The fight, which is scheduled for 10 rounds, will bring Dirrell out of his hibernation mode to where he’ll be looking to fight on a frequent basis in going after one or more of the world titles. Biosse is just the first stop for Dirrell, as he wants to go after the big names in the 168 pound division to show what he can do against those types of fighters.

On Thursday, Dirrell looked in sensational shape at the weigh-in. He came in at 172, as did Biosse. Dirrell will eventually be fighting at 168 once he gets more bouts under his belt, but for now there’s no rush in him coming all the way down to 168 when there’s not title on the line and he’s just getting a tune-up bout under him.

Dirrell has the hand speed and skills to become the Floyd Mayweather Jr of the super middleweight division. The only thing he needs is to stay busy, add a few high quality scalps to his resume, and have his fights televised on Showtime or HBO so that the boxing world can see him show his stuff. Dirrell shouldn’t waste time. He needs to go after the contenders James DeGale, George Groves, Gilberto Ramirez and Robert Stieglitz to get their names on his resume, and then go after a world title in 2015.

In the main event on card, 35-year-old Gabriel Campillo (23-6-1, 10 KOs) will be fighting unbeaten power puncher Thomas Williams Jr (17-0, 12 KOs) in a fight scheduled for 12 rounds. I don’t expect the fight to go even 6 rounds, because the southpaw Williams Jr punches hard and has amazing talent.

#4 WBO, #6 IBF, #10 WBC, #14 WBA Williams Jr wants to get a shot at WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev, and he feels that he’s got the power and the talent to beat the Russian champion. I would give Williams Jr an excellent chance of beating Kovalev fight now because of his combination of power, youth and technical skills.

Williams Jr weighed in at 175 pounds at yesterday’s weigh-in. Campillo came in at 174.8.
