floyd688By Gavin “Neds” O’Connor: This week at the BET awards ceremony the red carpet was turned in to an unofficial press posting with Floyd Mayweather Jr dropping the news of a September rematch with the tough Argentinean Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

To some the news was not a surprise and to others it was the choice of creditable and available suitors was to a lot of people in the boxing world believed very limited due to a number of issues. Manny Pacquiao is off limits due the problems between Bob Arum and Floyd and a collection of other issues (everyone has their own views).

Mayweather also choose at the same time to hint at a big surprise in-store in 2015 for fight fans. I think there are a few questions that need to be addressed but one more so than any other. We all know the biggest surprise would be the much anticipated fight between the two standout stars of boxing. Is this match-up now possible and if so what has charged?

At this moment it is all just speculation. Is it a clever publicity stunt to provide a much needed boost to revive the rumored lower than expected pay per view figures from the first Mayweather v Maidana fight?

So it looks like the Mayweather-Pacquiao carrot would appear to be out and hanging in front of the poor boxing public once again can Mayweather pull this off and create the dream fight or is the wool the only think being pulled over the public’s eyes? Floyd has now placed himself (if he choose to or by bad advice or accident ) front and center to deliver the fight everyone is expecting now because any other surprise other than the two great men meeting will be an anticlimactic end to one of the most talked about and anticipated fight in boxing history not to happen.
