Mayweather: No wonder Maidana has so many knockouts

Mayweather said that he’s not surprised that Maidana has so many knockouts given the little padding that his gloves have.

Maidana says he’s not going to give up with his desire to wear his MX gloves for the fight. But by insisting on wearing them, he’s making Mayweather even more determined not to let him. Mayweather’s stance is that if Maidana really needs that particular brand of gloves then it must have not been his own natural power that was getting those knockouts all those years, but rather the padding on the gloves that helped him knock so many guys out.

Mayweather said “No wonder he has got so many knockouts. He is strong, yeah, but nothing like I haven’t felt before. Look, if you beat me, then beat me the honest way. Earn it the right way. Look, they wanted the rematch and I gave it to them. Don’t get out here and complain about the gloves. If they feel they won the first fight with those gloves, don’t change to the other gloves. If they feel they won the first fight with those gloves, then win it again with those gloves.”

It’s going to be good when Mayweather and Maidana finally close the door on the gloves issue for this fight so that they can start talking about more important things. But it’s likely that the Maidana and his trainer Robert Garcia will bring up the gloves after the fight should they lose and use that as the excuse for them coming up shot against Mayweather.

Even if Mayweather knocks Maidana out, we could see him and Garcia complaining afterwards if Mayweather doesn’t agree to let Maidana wear the Everlast MX gloves.

Mayweather plans on improving his performance for this fight from the last time he fought Maidana. Mayweather was hit over 200 times by Maidana in that fight, and that was far more than what he normally is. Maidana was able land so many shots in the fight because he threw so many. His connect percentage was horrible, but with Mayweather frequently getting backed up to the ropes, it enabled Maidana to land a lot of shots.
