Mayweather-Maidana II tour dates and locations

floyd62111By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KO’s) has wisely decided to include a 5-city tour to promote his September 13th fight against the always tough Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The absence of a long tour to promote Mayweather’s previous fight against Maidana last May, and his fight against Robert “The Ghost’ Guerrero, obviously hurt the pay-per-view sales for those fights.

Don’t get me wrong; those two fights still did remarkably well in terms of pay-per-view sales, I’m sure, but they could have done much better had they had a tour of 5-10 cities. The Mayweather v. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight toured 10 cities and brought in 2.2 million buys on PPV. The huge number of press tours obviously had a lot to do with the success of the fight.

The 5 city Mayweather-Maidana II press tours are all open to the boxing public, so this isn’t an exclusive thing meant just for the media, thankfully. The more fans they bring in for these evens the better it’ll be for Mayweather and Maidana to pump up the pay-per-view sales for this magnificent fight.

With the added dates for the press tour for the Mayweather-Maidana II rematch, it’s quite possible that we could see the pay-per-view sales to skyrocket through the roof for this fight. All it needs it the proper marketing and this is going to be a huge success.

There’s still no word about which fights will be packaged with the card, but with a main event as interesting as this one, it doesn’t really matter. The Mayweather vs. Maidana fight alone is worth $75, easily.
