Maidana: Mayweather’s going home early on September 13th

By Chris Williams: Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) expects to send Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) home early on September 13th in their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Maidana tried last time to KO Mayweather and he failed. And now Maidana is going to try it again on September 13th to do what no man has done before against Mayweather to put an ‘L’ next to him.

Maidana says he’s been working on trying to throw more punches, because he feels that this is the best way for him to try and score a stoppage win over Mayweather. Maidana obviously thinks Mayweather is going to position himself against the ropes like he did the last time they fought in order to give him a handicap.

I really don’t think that’s going to happen this time, because Mayweather already gave Maidana one handicap last May. He can’t afford to be giving advantages to his opponents in order for them to be competitive with him every time he fights. This time it’s going to have to be Maidana doing it on his own, and proving whether he has the talent to compete or not.

At their press conference today in Chicago, Maidana said “Floyd Mayweather is going home early on September 13. I’m going to shut him up. I can’t get tired. I need to continuously throw punches for 12 rounds. I was trying to get a KO last time.”

Mayweather said “When it’s all said and done, [Robert] Garcia is just a trainer and Floyd Mayweather is a legend.”

Mayweather said that in response to some heated words from Garcia.

I don’t think Maidana is ready to crack the Mayvinci code at this time. We’ll see on September 13th, but unless Maidana improves dramatically from the last time they fought, he’s not going to be able to hand Mayweather his first loss of his career when they meet for their rematch.

Maidana is going to need to raise his game a few levels for him to give Mayweather problems in this fight, and I think Maidana is too old to be getting better overnight.
