Lucas Matthysse’s next opponent to be Mike Perez or Roberto Ortiz

matthysse233By Wil Patino: I usually write articles with some creativity and originality. This is the first time I’m trying to report “news” on a boxing news site. Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse has always been an exciting fighter who packs a punch and has some boxing skill.

I was hoping to see him back in the mix with some bigger names but these are the names that he will most likely face On September 6 2014. Its between Michael “The Artist” Perez (20-1) and Roberto Ortiz (31-0-1) 24 KO’s.

Michael Perez would be coming in winning 5 of his last 6 bouts. He lost to lightweight champion Omar Figueroa by stoppage. I think its fair to assume that if Matthysse gets his “hands” on Perez we should expect nothing less than a knock out. Nothing has been signed yet, but credible sources say they are seriously talking about an agreement being made. Hopefully this fight does not happen. Matthysse deserves better.

Up next is Roberto Ortiz the current WBC silver champion and ranked #4 by the WBC. I don’t know how legit that belt is because in my previous article you know how I feel about belts! (too many) Now on paper Roberto Ortiz definitely seems to be  the more worthy and deserving opponent. Being that he hasn’t been undefeated and has a decent KO ratio might suggest he can bang. I only seen 1 video of him and still can’t make a judgement call on what I think about him. Roberto is quoted saying “I’ve been the silver champion for three years, I’ve made nine defenses so I think I’m ready for these big fights.” Roberto Ortiz also says that there is a 90% chance that he will be fighting Matthysse. According to his managers they are working out the details.

Either way I’m not too happy for Lucas Matthysse as I really feel he deserves better. Matthysse was on the rise and although he lost to Danny Garcia he made a pretty good showcase of  his power and skill. We all know what Lucas Matthysse brings to the table even at the highest of levels in his division, yet we are treated to forcefully watch him face lesser opposition. I understand he’s rebuilding his career but he’s not getting any younger and deserves a shot at bigger money and more titles.

As always hope you enjoyed the article and would love to hear some of your opinions. Who do you think “The Machine” should be fighting next?
