Fury still under contract for Chisora rematch, fight to be rescheduled for possibly October

fury9999By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KOs) spoke a little too soon about him never agreeing to fight Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KOs) again in the future, because Chisora’s promoter Frank Warren says that Fury is still under contract to fight him.

Warren plans on rescheduling the rematch between the fighters as soon as he finds out how soon Chisora will be able to resume training. He’s got an injured thumb on his left hand that needs to heal before he can get back in the ring to resume training for his rematch with Fury. Warren mentioned

With Fury now facing Chisora once again, it means that a fight against Alexander Ustinov is now history unfortunately. A lot of boxing fans voiced their opinion that they saw the Fury-Ustinov fight as the more appealing match-up than a second fight between Fury and Chisora, given the one-sided nature of the previous fight between those two fighters, as well as the huge size differences between them.

For anyone that remembers their previous fight in 2011, Chisora, 6’2”, looked like an overweight cruiserweight that had found his way by mistake in the ring with the 6’9” Fury. What resulted was a one-sided mismatch with Fury working Chisora over for 12 painfully one-sided rounds.

It was for that reason it was surprising that there was a rematch between the two fighters. Can you imagine Wladimir Klitschko having a rematch with Mariusz Wach or Alexander Povetkin? People would wonder why given how easily he beat them. Even if it were three years later, fans would still see absolutely no point in Wladimir facing either of those guys again.

The same applies with Chisora-Fury. I mean, if Chisora had actually beaten someone good since the last time he fought Fury, you could kind of understand the idea of them fighting again. But Chisora has beaten fringe level 1st tier/2nd tier guys since his fight with Fury in 2011. Chisora has also lost three times in getting beaten by Robert Helenius, Vitali Klitschko and David Haye.

“He [Fury] has a contract. He’s contracted to box Dereck Chisora,” Warren said to IFL TV. “As soon as we know the date that he [Chisora] can get back training we can then advise everybody as when the Chisora-Fury fight will take place.”

“It was all about the winner getting the right to fight Klitschko,” Warren said. “We’ve lost that for the July show, and that will now happen sometime in October.”

So there it is. Fury must fight Chisora again at some point in the future, and it looks like the two of them will meet up in October unless we see another injury or withdrawal for some reason.
