Chisora injured, Fury rematch to be rescheduled

fury7811111By Scott Gilfoid: I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KOs) has reportedly suffered a fractured hand injury and he won’t be able to take the big money fight against Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KOs) at the Phones 4 U Arena in Manchester, UK. Chisora went to a specialist to examine his injured hand, but he told him he shouldn’t take the fight.

For Fury, this is the third time he’s missed out on a life-changing payday and he’s obviously not happy about it. Fury missed out on David Haye fight due to him suffering a cut the week of the fight on one occasions and then later tearing up his shoulder on another occasion.

The major question that you have to ask is when did Chisora suffer his hand injury? Did it just happen this week? If so, then why in the heck was he working out so hard the week of the fight? At this point Chisora should have been doing mitt work and light bag work. For him to suffer an injury this close to the fight, it sends a red flag that Chisora might have been overdoing it.

***Update*** Chisora suffered the fractured hand injury during his final sparring sessions. This is the same thing that happened with David Haye suffering a cut during his final sparring session before the Fury fight. Talk about someone being jinxed. Fury has missed out on total cash now with these missed fights.

Fury said this on his twitter: “Chisora, don’t even think of pulling out of this fight, [expletive]! Don’t do a David Haye and be a [out] house, [expletive], you’ll be a laughing stock.”

This is bad. Chisora injured, Fury hopping mad, and fight fans now stuck with watching Billy Joe Saunders vs. Emanuele Blandamura now being moved up to the main event. For fans that purchased tickets to the fight, they’ve got to be feeling horrible. Will they want to take the effort to go and see Saunders face this Blandamura guy?

Chisora said, “I can’t tell you how disappointed I am to have to pull out of the fight against Fury, but it is on the advice of my specialist that I have to do this. I’m sorry for the fans who will get to miss this great fight between me and Tyson this Saturday, but once my hand is healed and I’m given the all-clear to train and punch again, I’ll be working on the new date for the fight.”

Well, Fury can always pick up the pieces and try and take on a good heavyweight like Deontay Wilder, who has been trying to get the 6’9” Fury into the ring for ages now. Deontay doesn’t have a fight scheduled after WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverene suffered a hand injury. Deontay would likely jump at the chance at getting Fury into the ring to bounce some of his right hands off of his chin to see how well Fury takes them. My guess is Fury won’t take the fight with Deontay.

Fury has a big decision to make. He can either wait around hoping that the 30-year-old Chisora’s wounded hand will heal by the end of the year so that they can fight, or he can move on and look to face a younger, sturdier fighter that will make it through training without falling apart.

Fury already lost a year of his career in trying to get David Haye into the ring, and now he’s on the verge of losing more time due to Chisora’s injury.
Things are pretty desperate looking for Fury. He’s not fought a live body since the Steve Cunningham a year ago. You can’t count Joey Abell as a quality fight for Fury, because it was just a tune-up.
